Gabie Read

I studied an Art Foundation Degree in 1990, and went onto graduate in Humanities and Arts. In 1996, I joined the Army, as a Combat Medic in the RAMC. I left in 2005, but then undertook an Operational Tour of Afghanistan, as a Reservist in 2009-10.

I have been diagnosed with Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and returned to Art, initially, as a means to process trauma.

I particularly enjoyed printmaking as a student. I have been a member of the Leicester Print Works, since 2014, and have undertook several courses to further my printmaking. I work primarily in Intaglio print techniques.

I am interested in Psychogeography and Hauntology. The idea of people, places and cultures, holding the residual haunted traces of generational trauma. Having also suffered bereavement, I explore my ancestral history and folklore, in my work.

I have had my work in exhibitions around the East Midlands and South Yorkshire.

I am also a member of the Market Harborough Artists Cluster and the Two Queens gallery, in Leicester.
